The TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) is a Type 40 space-time vehicle from Gallifrey. The Chameleon Circuit, which allows a TARDIS to blend in with its surroundings, got broken when the First Doctor and his granddaughter Susan were residing in 1960s London, leaving it stuck in the form of a Police telephone box.
