The Toclafane are enemies of the Doctor. They are the final evolution of the human race, cyborgs integrated into spherical, mechanical shells that make them "pretty."
The spheres could hover through the air and even fly through space, undamaged. Concealed within the sphere were extendable spikes and blades.
A Toclafane can use them to slice up a human being. The spheres are also equipped with lasers that can reduce humans to ash.
The name "Toclafane" was given to them by the Master, after a fairy tale monster from Gallifrey, the local equivalent of Earth's "Boogeyman."
Their personality is amoral and childlike from a failed attempt to regress themselves to children.
