I know this has been discussed before, but a lot of time has passed, and the situation is more or less the same. Currently, if I'm not mistaken, there are only two editors on the wiki who know how to datamine. I agree that it's fine that not everyone will always be able to edit the wiki (I myself have been having less time than last year), but wouldn't it be time to consider teaching more people to datamine? Felicityk and I are, usually the main editors for the weekly patches, with helps from Dominodalek as well. So, considering there's been a few weeks that no one's been able to datamine the needed images wouldn't it be useful if more people (if willing to) were able to datamine?
I'd be willing to help datamine, if someone is willing to teach me how to. I have some free time, and would be willing to help get the needed images, if this is still a problem by the time I've sent this reply out. if not, I'd still be willing to help.
i havent tried the datamining-stuff, butd be willing to too... otoh, i think the gems/fragment images are ok using regular screenshots ? ill check and see what makes sense in a bit... anyways - iirc there were instructions (re: mining) in another thread... will edit/link if i find it...
The issue is no one is willing to teach. As OncomingStorm said, he and I take care of most of the editing, and I definitely have the time, just not the knowledge. As long as it does not involve jailbreaking my iOS device, I want to learn.
OK you guys are right, I will give you guys the lessons but the people I taught people were all android users, so sorry anyone on iOS. I pickFelicityk,OncomingStorm12th, Hfelton. You three have been here long enough that I know you guys should be able to get the job done. Tell me what kind of time you guys are avaialble and I will show you on chat.
not sure what timezones are involved - but im avail now; and should be avail at random-times almost-daily as well... :)
edit: i think i usually "notice" felicity around midnite PST and oc12th a couple hours earlier... its currently 7a-ish on wed; why dont i/we try to coord at midnite tonite or tomorrow... im just picking a time... if email is more-convenient to coord, then feel free to send... (iirc, yallre admins and i def. give permission to locate/use my email - i just checked which one im using for this and it is: hfelton_junk at hotmail)... believe it or not, i do check that at least once/day or so...
i can def. do the android thing, via windows or via linux... will have to double-check my adb-setup to be sure tho... wheee... exciting... btw - never finished my search thru msgs to see if it (mining) had been written-down somewhere here... figured it prolly was not...
otoh, with some medium clues - i could prolly figure it out myself too... iirc, there was an apk-downloader that i used once upon a time for fun - and odds are theres a strings-like disassembler for images inside a binary, as a reasonable guess... hmmm...
btw - if this msg has something spoiler-like or against TOS, then please feel free to delete any/all info... i just babble a lot when excited... :)
I'm on iOS so that might disqualify me. If not, my time zone is EDT. It looks like Alpha went to sleep around 11 am my time. I can be available in the four-hour window before that (7 am - 11 am EDT) Thursday or Friday.
oops - sorry, i got excited and stopped looking online here... i decided to see how well my google-fu worked and got fairly close to success... i have managed to grab the silly splash-screen (black-w-logo 768x1024) and have lots of dirs of stuff (smali) that might be useful... otoh, im kinda-flying-blind at what im looking at and will prolly crash/sleep before trying to decipher some more... in case it matters, i have latest-apk and obb; with apktool working...
I'm an Android used, so I'm in for it. Like HFelton, I would be OK too if it was more convinient for you to simply send the instructions on e-mail. However, if it's easier to do it on chat, so my general schedule (at London time) would be, generally:
ok, it looks like we got the basics (and bases) covered... oc12th is MUCH faster than i am, but at least i got the fragments in there... :) and, btw, i will get back to you (felicity) in-thread if i can figure out how to do the same-thing from ios for another chat-session... hope alls going well - and thanx again (alpha)... :)
@OncomingStorm12th, you ask me about doctor stat earlier, during the early stages of the facebook release, we were able to datamine the stats but nowadays doctor stat cannot be obtained via datamining, we have to do it manually from ingame.
I will explain how it works:
Doctors actually have a hidden level stat, so their minimum and a maximum stat is actually the stat they have at the minimum and maximum level allowed at each rank
Their hidden level stat is base on 2 things,
1) The average level of the companions in the team
Doctor's level = average level of the companion in the team
2) The doctor's rank and
If the doctor is rank 1, his level must be between 1 and 10
If the doctor is rank 2, his level must be between 11 and 20 etc
If the companion's average level is higher or lower than the rank allows, it would use the maximum or minimum level that rank allows
Example 1 : doctor's rank = 3 and companion average level =25, doctor level = 25
Example 2 : doctor's rank = 3 and companion average level =17, doctor level = 21
Example 3 : doctor's rank = 3 and companion average level =43, doctor level = 30
If there are no companions in the team, the average companion level is 0.
Therefore to get the doctor's minimum stat at each rank, take out all the companions from the team and just put the doctor in the team and you get his minimum stat.
if you want the doctor's maximum stat at each rank, the best way is to put 1 level 60 companion into a team with the doctor, then subtract the companion stat and you have the doctor's maximum stat at that rank.
ios - at an absolute minimum, apparently, it would require a jail-broken phone... even then, apparently app-backup has gotten much-harder since ios-9... i dont have any iphone-hw to test with, altho if i did, i am sure i would have jailbroken it already... i have rooted every android phone ive owned as soon as i could because there was always a race between the mod-community and the device-manufacturers/sellers...
felicity - jailbreaking is not the end-of-the-world; but i can completely understand your desire not to do it/bother with the hassles... im afraid datamining for/from iphone is NOT reasonably doable (unless you could get trg to release the source-code and you want to run a debugger-session)... of course, if we had the source-code - then datamining becomes pointless too... lol...
ha I used to bug Lee to get me a source code version and his response was always we will think about it and then the conversation went nowhere. So no point asking. And as a former game tester I can tell you that you really don't want a source code version, they can break your game in more ways than one.
(Available through code in Doctor Who Magazine issue 500, got my electronic copy today)
interesting !!! did the e-version have the code ? very cool... i almost signed-up for e-subscription; but wasnt sure - so went to local comic-book-store and ordered actual-copy... they said it was on-order, but not-in yet... whatever - will upload images in a bit... :-)
having trouble finding her... i thought id just done an update and recheck for details, but maybe something didnt work correctly... or - maybe it requires me to complete the level to activate the download to my phone... whatev - if/when i sort it out, will upload - or if storm sees this he can too... :)
Oh, and just another thing I remembered (I forgot it until you added the screenshot version): the power icons can also be datamined, so when there are new powers, if I forget to upload them, feel free to remind of them as well.
I have now added the Retro Comic Dalek images. I agree with calling the brown ones "Retro Comic Time War Dalek". However, can anyone think of a better name than "Classic Dalek" for the grey ones? There have been several types of "Classic" Daleks, and we should get more specific names for each type.
I've been looking to dig into the game files for character stats with greater granularity than what the wiki currently has (per-level vs. per-10-levels) but haven't had much luck finding anything useful...any tips?

afaict, the stats arent something that is easy to find in the game APK, unless you are willing to dis-assemble the bytecodes back into whatever language was used to code it... iirc, the details that you see on the level-listings per character are just noted by-hand from players in-game... thus, there might even be typos (altho i doubt it, since quite a few eyes have looked thru most of the data)...
many players (ok, maybe just me) will barely need the details for per-10-levels... they/we/i just need to figure out how-high (level-10-wise) a character needs to be upgraded to be useful in whatever-scenario is of-interest at-the-moment...
btw - "hi" (os12th) and glad yall picked up the latest-pixel outfit... i still have my notes (for dwlegacy) and have had to learn a slightly different-way to get the pictures for stwog - but it is all-good...
eta: if you (darkgob) notice an error in the numbers - it might easily be because the stats got adjusted from TRG and nobody has gotten around to looking at them recently... thus, if YOUR eyes see something different in-game - change it on the wiki... thatll trigger someone-else to double-check your change and --poof-- everything will be better here for everyone...
there really is no magic-bullet that is done to make this wiki so great - it is the consistently dedicated fans who pore over the details... gl, h.
Well that's disappointing, albeit not surprising. I had tried interpolating stats for individual levels based on the known decilevel stats because at first I thought stats were "grouped" like experience tracks, but I later realized that wasn't the case; the resulting model also didn't work out particularly well anyway. Are there any tools for Android to see what a program has loaded into memory? Has anyone actually datamined (using the proper meaning) the stats we do have to discern a pattern?
That said, I suppose you're right that most people don't need stat granularity beyond decilevels, I'm just a sometimes unecessarily thorough person. :) My motivations are actually beyond the information integrity of the wiki, although if I did somehow get this information on my own I would certainly update here as appropriate.
ive tried the datamining-thing once or twice before (and again for the past hour or so) using only one character-set and was not able to discern a pattern that matched the data... i suspect there might be details that are not-necessarily captured in the wiki (like the lvl-40/41 transition) completely-correctly... there are other folks who used-to frequent here awhile ago who deciphered the original experience-tracks you mention...
regarding android-memory - just fire up an emulator, set up a debugger, and dig in... ive thrashed-around in there a bit, it was not pretty, and not worth-it (to me, at least)... to me, trying to back-trace patterns like this are kinda-fun for an hour or two - but ultimately not fulfilling... itd be easier to just ask TRG (or bribe/cajole/... them) about what the answer is...
otoh - nothing (particularly software) is perfect... metaphor: seeing how the sausage is made will not make it taste better... :-)
